Most teams do not need to be convinced that automation is a good idea. What holds them back is knowing where to start, and having the skills to build something that works reliably once it leaves the test environment. Microsoft Power Automate makes the building part accessible, but the difference between a clever experiment and a dependable business process usually comes down to training.
In this article we look at seven everyday processes that teams commonly automate with Power Automate, and which JBI training course helps your people build each one. You can browse the full Power Automate training course group at any point to see the complete pathway.
Holiday requests, purchase orders, expense claims, document sign-off: approvals are the classic first automation. A flow sends the request to the right person, waits for the decision, notifies everyone involved and records the outcome, with no chasing by email.
Simple approvals are easy to build. Multi-stage approvals, escalations and custom responses need a deeper understanding of triggers, actions and variables, which is exactly what Power Automate – Beyond the Basics covers, using practical scenarios such as sign-ups with approval flows and automated notifications.
Whether it is a customer enquiry, an internal request or a feedback survey, Microsoft Forms makes it easy to capture information. Power Automate takes it from there: it can log each response in a list, notify the right team and start the next step in the process automatically.
The Forms, Cloud & Desktop Power Automate course is built around exactly this combination, teaching delegates to capture data with Forms and process it with cloud flows.
Deadlines, overdue tasks, new documents, status changes: people need to know when something happens, and they should not have to check manually. Automated notifications through Teams or Outlook keep everyone informed without anyone having to remember to send them.
These flows are a good place for beginners to start, and the Power Automate introductory course shows how to build them with triggers, actions and connectors.
Filtering calendar events, sending invitations and keeping schedules in sync are tasks that eat time in every organisation. With the right flow, a new booking can trigger invitations, confirmations and reminders automatically.
This is one of the practical scenarios used in Beyond the Basics, where delegates work with filtering and automation to send training invites.
Copying information from one application into another is slow and error-prone. Power Automate connectors let flows move data between Microsoft 365 apps and many other services automatically, keeping systems consistent without manual re-keying.
Teams that want to build complete, data-driven solutions can go further with the Power Platform Deep Dive, which combines Power Automate with Power Apps and Dataverse for Teams, and teaches the expressions that make flows flexible.
Not every system has a connector. Legacy applications, older software and repetitive desktop routines can still be automated using Power Automate Desktop and robotic process automation (RPA), which can click, type and copy information the way a person would.
Desktop flows are covered alongside cloud flows in the Forms, Cloud & Desktop Power Automate course, so teams learn when to use each and how to combine them in one process.
Once data is flowing automatically, the next question is what it is telling you. Automations that collect responses, update lists and record outcomes create a stream of information that can feed reports and dashboards.
For teams that gather information through Microsoft Forms and want to analyse it, the course group also includes Microsoft Forms Data in Power BI, which completes the journey from capture, to automation, to insight.
Building the flow is only part of the job. Automations that run the business need to be tested, documented, supported and governed. The Power Platform Deep Dive also introduces the Power Automate admin centre and covers documenting and testing, which are the habits that keep solutions maintainable as they grow.
A few practical principles help any team:
