UK county council supplied with T-SQL training course

A UK county council requested that JBI run a T-SQL training course for their procurement team and in particular the category and contract managers.

Before the pandemic, JBI had run various iterations of the Power BI and Power BI – beyond the basics course for the same county council, building a strong rapport during the on-site training at both the JBI offices and at the county council. Following the return to more normal practices after the pandemic, JBI was recommended to several other departments in the county council including technology services and education services when the entire council had an overhaul to using Power BI. This year the procurement team returned to JBI for T-SQL training to improve the BI strategy of the team by syncing with Power BI. The procurement company wants to use T-SQL script as the source for Power BI reports, getting data from the SQL server and receiving the results in Power BI. T-SQL removes the need to filter data, remove columns or use other steps after importing data. T-SQL also enhances mathematical functions and adds user-defined functions.

In consultation with the county council, JBI created a three day tailor made training course to enhance the learning experience of the group. This involved mixing the “perfect” adventure works SQL data with the county councils own data to improve engagement and understanding of exercises during the course. Furthermore, since the county council data wasn’t perfect, it ensured the delegates worked through problems they would encounter on a daily basis. The course created used certain learning objectives to ensure it was a success:

• Introduce SQL server and T-SQL
• Gain an understanding of T-SQL features
• Learn how to program views, triggers, user-defined function and stored procedures
• Integrating T-SQL with SQL server
• Using XML data support
